Labhpur, also spelt as Labpur is a town and community development block under the Bolpur subdivision in the Birbhum district of West Bengal. Labhpur is a very famous among the Bengalees as the native place of laureate Tarashankar Bandopadhyay, one of the biggest contributors to the Bengali literature. Labhpur lies on flood plains of the Mayurakshi river and offers a panoramic site which makes it an interesting place to visit. The Assembly constituency of Labhpur consists of several gram panchayats such as
Bipratikuri, Jamna, Chauhatta, Hatia, Dwaraka, Karunnahar and Thiba. Labhpur is also known as a flood-prone area as the water released from Massanjore dam and Tilpara Barrage often makes it waterlogged.

Major attractions in Labhpur

Durga Puja and Rash Yatra are the two major festivals in Labhpur and it is the time when devotees and tourists from all parts of Bengal come here. On the Rash Yatra day, a large procession goes from Thakurwadi to Rathtala, where the annual feast of Sri Krishna is held. The Fullara Mela (fair) is another prime attraction in Labhpur.

Fullara

According to Hindu mythology, Fullara is the site where the lip of Goddess Sati fell and is thus one of the 51 Shakti peethas . The Fullara Mela takes place on the full moon night of Bengali month Magh (Mid-January). There is a big pond in Fullara, from where Hanuman collected 108 blue lotuses that ere required by Sri Ramchandra to worship Goddess Durga.

Gobind Sagar

Basically a part of Laghata river, Gobind Sagar is a big pond from where a statue of Lord Krishna was once discovered. Gobind Sagar is located by the side of Rathtala.

Thakurwadi

Located at a distance of 1 km from the archaic narrow gauge railway station, Thakurwadi is famous for an ancient temple decorated with valuable marble stones. Founded by Satyanarayana Banerjee, the temple houses idols of different Hindu deities like Lord Karthik and Ganesha.

Other than these there is a market where things of different varieties are sold. Earlier it used to be a weekly market but now vendors sit here everyday and sell vegetables, household goods, wooden materials, iron materials and potteries.

How to reach Labhpur from Kolkata

Labhpur is very well-connected with Kolkata by the rail route. Four pairs of trains trave;l daily along the Ahmedpur-Katwa narrow gauge line. One can also get down at Bardhaman by availing any train from Howrah that heads toward that direction and can take the one that travels on the narrow gauge line.
